Warnings / Side effects
Discard unfinished thickened feeds or unused made up gel immediately. When feeding a thickened bottle-feed, the teat may require a larger hole than normal or a variable flow (split) teat may be used. Infants should be supervised at all times when feeding. Instant Carobel is suitable for full term infants, children and adults. Cow & Gate do not recommend to use instant carobel with preterm or low birthweight babies and there is no clinical data available to support its use with these infants. Only to be used under medical supervision. All instructions for preparation and use should be followed carefully. Not suitable as a sole source of nutrition. In the interest of good dental hygiene, clean your baby's teeth regularly, especially before bedtime.
Usage / Instructions
Dual usage
Infants - Instant Carobel may be added directly to an infant's milk or drink (water/juice), or given by spoon as a thick gel just prior to drinking, or eating a very wet meal.
Adults - Instant Carobel may be added to fluids and wet foods or can be eaten as a paste prior to drinking.
How to prepare
In a Bottlefeed - Prepare the infant milk to the manufacturer's guidelines. Add Instant Carobel as indicated in the feeding guide below. Shake well (for 30-60 secs). Leave for 3-4 minutes to thicken. Shake again and feed immediately. Do not heat in a microwave. Hot spots may occur and cause scalding.
As a Spoonfeed or Paste - This method is appropriate for breastfed infants and may be the preferred method for bottlefed infants. It is also suitable for first weaning foods that have too liquid a consistency and for older children and adults. Add Instant Carobel as indicated in the feeding guide below. Stir well and leave for 3-4 minutes to thicken. Stir again and feed immediately, by spoon, prior to and during the feed or meal.

Method: In a bottlefeed, Consistency: thin, Level scoops of instant carobel: 1/2, Hand warm infant milk* 90ml 3fl. oz, Concentration: 1%
Method: In a bottlefeed, Consistency: thick, Level scoops of instant carobel: 1, Hand warm infant milk*: 60ml 2fl. oz, Concentration: 3%
Method: As a spoonfeed or paste, Consistency: very thick, Level scoops of instant carobel: 3, Hand warm infant milk*: 60ml 2fl. oz, Concentration: 9%
* Can also be used with cooled, freshly boiled water.
Instant Carobel will continue to thicken up to 4-15 minutes after mixing. Therefore, it is advisable to add Instant Carobel one scoop at a time, stir well and allow to thicken, and then add more instant carobel until the desired consistency is achieved.
1 level scoop = 1.7g. Always use the scoop provided.
