Founded in 2011, Matt and his then girlfriend-now-wife, Lizzi set out to build
a naturally delicious and cleaned up pancake & waffle mix. The duo
experimented with every ingredient they used, and ended up with the fluffiest,

How did you come up with the idea for this product?
I woke up one morning craving pancakes, but was confronted with a rather empty
fridge of just eggs, which led me to think: “What if you could crack an egg
over the griddle, but instead of getting a fried egg, you’d get a gourmet
pancake. What if making pancakes could be that easy?”
What makes your product special?
Before Birch Benders came along, pancakes were stuck in the dark ages. The
organic mixes were WAY too expensive and the convenience mixes were filled
with junk. We wanted to the perfect pancake with the convenience of just
adding water.
What has been the best part of your startup experience?
Lizzi and I started Birch Benders and we have been able to see this company
and brand grow together.
